常喜院ではお不動様の日（毎月28日）、護摩木を積み、御護摩祈祷によりお不動さまに祈願するお焚き上げを行います。

護摩木は、先祖のご供養のために行うものと、願い事を書く祈願の護摩木の2種類があります。

参拝された皆様の願いが込められた護摩木を護摩壇中央にある炉の中に入れ、仏の智慧の火で煩悩を焼きつくし、皆様の願いを仏様にお伝えし、所願が成就する事を祈ります。

護摩とは、供物（護摩木・五穀など）を火に投げ入れて祈願するという意味のサンスクリット語・梵語（古代インドで使われていた言葉）「ホーマ・homa」の音写です。インドのバラモン教の火天（アグニ・Agni）を御本尊とし、供養して、魔を除き、福を求めるために行われた供犠が、供物を炎に投じて神仏を供養する修法として密教に取り入れらました。火の神が煙とともに供物を天上の仏様に届けて願い事をかなえるといわれ、密教にのみ存在する修法の一つです。

Goma(Homa) Fire Ceremony :The Buddhist Rite Of Burning Wooden Sticks ”Gomagi”

Goma is a solemn religious ceremony supported by deep philosophical meaning and the esoteric Buddhist doctrine of Shingon Sect Esoteric Buddhism. The Japanese word “Goma” is read “Homa” in Sanskrit, and means “to burn.” It signifies that the fire of Buddha’s wisdom is used to completely burn up worldly desire, the source of suffering.

Gomagi is the short, wooden sticks used in the Goma (Homa) Fire Ceremony to be burned with your pray or wish on.

We have the Goma (Homa) Fire ceremony every month to pray for the achievement of one’s wishes written on gomagi, including greater purification, peace to the household, prosperity to the business, health and longevity.
